NCLEX USA

The National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) is a pivotal nationwide assessment designed for the licensure of nurses across the United States. Administered by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN), a body comprising the boards of nursing from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and four U.S. Territories (American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands), the NCLEX sets a standardized benchmark for nursing competency.

Aspiring nurses, armed with an approved nursing degree, undergo the NCLEX to obtain licensure, with the examination branch-specific: NCLEX-RN (Registered Nurse) or NCLEX-PN (Practical Nurse). The successful completion of this rigorous examination is paramount, as it serves as a critical determinant of the nurse’s readiness to practice within the regulatory guidelines of their chosen state board in the United States. The NCLEX, therefore, plays a pivotal role in ensuring the competence and safety of nursing practitioners across the nation.

Who Needs to Take the NCLEX?

Individuals aspiring to work as nurses in the United States are obligated to take and successfully pass the NCLEX exam, making it a pivotal step in their professional journey. The NCLEX examination is tailored to the educational background of the candidates, resulting in two distinct forms based on their level of education.

For those holding a Practical Nursing diploma and aiming to secure licensure as a licensed practical nurse (LPN), successful completion of the NCLEX-PN is essential. On the other hand, individuals with an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in nursing, aspiring to practice as registered nurses (RNs), must pass the NCLEX-RN. This structured approach ensures that the examination aligns with the specific skill sets and knowledge expected at each educational level, thereby establishing a standardized assessment process for individuals pursuing different nursing roles.

What You Need To Know

There are 50 State Boards of Nursing (SBON) and have different sets of requirements, qualifications, processes, registrations, regulations, as well as fees. Therefore, a foreign nurse may qualify for one state while the other candidate may not, depending on their level of education and experience.

Considering the difference between NCLEX RN and NCLEX PN

The USA NCLEX Application process encompasses two categories: NCLEX RN for candidates with an Associate Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN), and NCLEX PN, exclusively for practical and vocational nurses holding a diploma in Licensed Vocational Nursing or a license in Practical Nursing.

Selecting the appropriate state for eligibility and identifying the state with the most straightforward application process is the initial consideration. Each state has unique requirements, qualifications, and processes. Nasya facilitates a free assessment to determine a candidate’s eligibility based on work experience, education, and objectives.

Once the preferred state is identified, the candidate undergoes the Credential Evaluation Process (CES) to assess document equivalence with USA education standards. It’s crucial to note that not all Boards of Nursing conduct a pre-eligibility or Credential Evaluation Phase. Upon eligibility determination by the nursing regulatory body, the candidate receives an Authorization to Test (ATT) and can choose an exam date within the validity period.

NCSBN reports that the NCLEX passing rate for foreign nurses in 2021 was approximately 46.68% for RNs and 51.49% for PNs (First time – Internationally Educated). The exam is standardized across states and testing centers.

After the exam, candidates can access unofficial results in 48 hours through the Quick Results service. However, official NCLEX Results come from the Board of Nursing, which may require additional steps, such as submitting a license application.

Navigating the application process independently may be challenging. Nasya offers a hassle-free, fast, and reliable service, prioritizing candidates’ time and convenience. With a commitment to a smooth and transparent application, Nasya ensures a supportive and efficient experience on your NCLEX journey. For further questions or to begin your NCLEX journey with us.
