National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN), a nurse that is licensed in one state can be licensed in another using a process known as license endorsement. The licensure decision in the second state is based on verification of licensure; some states accept verification from a different state of licensure and meeting all of the state’s additional licensure policy.

What is Process of endorsement for a USRN license? 

USRN License Endorsement Application is usually as follows: 

Phase 1: Pre-Endorsement Application to Board of Nursing or Credential Evaluation with Health Authorities 

The medical professional will submit school credentials and license validation requests. And also declare the originating state of the candidates during this application process. The Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools, Inc. or CGFNS will review their credentials and check if they have met the education requirements in the US. 

These include a letter about the candidate nurse’s education being comparable to US standards. 

Phase 2: Endorsement Application to Board of Nursing 

In this process the licensure for registered nurses who have previously been licensed in another jurisdiction or state, as well as some Canadian registered nurse a licensee, who wants to move to another state. And if the Board of Nursing requires the Credential Evaluation Service or CES application to be processed, this will be the following step once the CES is accomplished. Licensed Endorsement only takes place if the Licensed professional wishes to transfer from one state to another regardless if it’s compact or single state.
